Blythe Barracudas Swimming Club is celebrating after the A team was crowned Division 2 Champions of the Nuneaton and District Junior Swimming League, earning promotion to Division 1. After a stunning season in the League, there were double celebrations as the B team also gained a place at the prestigious 39th Annual League Finals after finishing 6th in Division 3. The recent Blythe AGM showed what a great committee we are lucky to have with only a few changes to make you aware of. The main changes are the departure of Laura Farquhar & Lucy Rigg. Laura has supported the committee since the beginning of the club as membership secretary, kit secretary and more recently ASA co-ordinator. Lucy is stepping down from many years service manning the club shop. So we say ‘many thanks’ to both Laura & Lucy. Sarah Jones has stepped into Lucy’s shoes. Welcome! Blythe is celebrating its most successful season to date, after winning the gala 3 final of the Mercian Summer League at the weekend. Held at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre, Blythe swimmers put in some superb performances to take the champions title with 211 points. For the girls there were wins for 11 year old Scarlett Flynn in the 100m breaststroke, 14 year old Laurie Bennett in the 100m butterfly, 14 year old Hannah Rogers in the 100m freestyle as well as firsts for the girls 12 under medley relay team,14 and under freestyle relay team and the Open freestyle team. Blythe Barracudas Swimming Club held its annual presentation night at the Ivy Leaf Club in Sheldon recently to recognise the outstanding achievements of its swimmers over the past year. 230 swimmers and parents attended in the biggest celebration the club has held to date. Six endeavour trophies were awarded for effort, commitment and achievement to 10 and under swimmers Emily Baker and Michael Greenhill, 12 and under swimmers Maia Sanger and Joseph Tipping and in the 13+ category, Coby Griffin and Charlotte Worrall. We can officially confirm that both Blythe Barracudas’ A and B teams have reached the finals of the Nuneaton Junior League in September in Wolverhampton, & it promises to be a very special day for the Club.
