First Ever Mini Gala is Huge Success

Blythe Barracudas held its first Mini Gala recently for teaching and development swimmers in the Club. Over 80 children took part in the gala held at Saint Martins School with events ranging from 10m races for those still using swimming aids to 25m races in all four strokes for more able swimmers. The senior squad gave a 100m individual medley demonstration to showcase what can be achieved through training and to inspire and encourage the youngsters to continue with their swimming. All swimmers who took part received a medal and certificate.

Victoria is Youngest Qualifier for International Meet

12 year old Victoria Long of Blythe Barracudas was the youngest competitor to qualify for the British Gas International Swimming Meet held in Leeds earlier this month. Representing City of Birmingham, Victoria qualified for the 50m backstroke and 200m backstroke races at this inaugural event, which has been added to the British Swimming calendar in response to the Olympic legacy, giving British swimmers more opportunities to compete at an international level. Barracudas Now Swim21 Accredited

We are pleased to announce that Blythe Barracudas has now been recognised as a Swim21 accredited club, recognising that the club is run to the high standards demanded of the ASA, and assuring our members and potential members of the standard of support the club gives. Whilst the club has always maintained high standards, ensuring we had everything in place is no small task and we are indebted to Ian Sutton, the committee, and others who helped out to cross this hurdle. Well Done and thank you for all your time and efforts.

Swimmers Excel at Novice Gala

Blythe Barracudas Swimming Club was in action last weekend with younger members of the club getting a taste for competition at the Harvey Novice Gala held at Pingles Leisure Centre in Nuneaton. Blythe came 4th overall with some excellent personal best times achieved by the fledgling team. For the boys is was Freddie Truman who triumphed in the boys 9 years 25m freestyle whilst 8 year olds Harry Jones, Zach Armstrong and George Dowse came a credible 2nd in the 25m breaststroke, 25m freestyle and 25m backstroke races respectively. Blythe Swimmers Shine at Junior Invitation Meet

A remarkable 65 swimmers from Blythe Barracudas Swimming Club took to the water last weekend for the Boldmere Junior Invitation Meet held at Stechford Cascades. This annual event is specifically aimed at up and coming young swimmers aged 8 to 12. As well as giving junior swimmers the chance to compete it also enables the coaches to judge abilities in time for picking teams for the forthcoming Nuneaton Junior League. For the 8 year olds it was Matilda Murphy who impressed, achieving 2nd place in the 25m butterfly, 3rd in the 25m backstroke and 25m freestyle as well as 4th [...]
